Meaning in Phenomenology is appearance in consciousness. There is no objectless consciousness or unintended object. Every object is realized in the subject’s consciousness. So, Self in phenomenology becomes the object of itself – making the self go though self-introspection and self-reflexively experience the truth.
Meaning in Hermeneutics is what we inherit from others. The past plays a major role in deciding the meaning in the present. By inheritance or tradition, one doesn’t subscribe to any orthodox/conservative schools. But, the perceptions and insights which energized the past have a continuing career in the present too. So, hermeneutic Self participates in the ongoing task of understanding the meaning of a past. Hence, nothing is certain and everything is in the process of Becoming.
